“A MASTER CLASS ON WHAT A DOCUMENTARY CAN BE”
- FILM THREAT

The film

Nature, culture, and human life collide, with sheer survival at stake as sharks, surfers, scientists and society fight for everything they value. In Great White Summer, quiet Cape Cod coastal towns struggle with increasing threats from a growing shark population, and the bad blood growing within their own community.

Six months after a fatal 2018 shark attack, the locals on Cape Cod are grappling with how to proceed as the next busy summer season looms. The story that follows is set in a very specific time and place, but with themes that are universal.

Great White Summer was born in part from the momentum of our prior film, Chi-Town. We were determined to continue in the verité tradition - shooting observationally as a tiny unit. We set out to render full characters who felt more than one way about complex issues. Each person brings their own perspective and there is conflict over how best to love this place they call home.
